#101 My daughter is struggling with constipation. What can I give her to help prevent this?

There are several steps to prevent constipation and these are explained in greater detail in our booklets (Keto Store). Ensure that she drinks enough liquids throughout the day. Include a high-fiber vegetable daily in at least 2 of her 3 meals (i.e. broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, avocado). Flaxseed is high in fiber and fat and can be sprinkled on salads, into cooked vegetables or made into porridge (see our recipes). MCT oil has a laxative effect and also increases ketosis therefore it should be started in small amounts and best given in about the same amount at each meal (check with your nutritionist). Many people need a medicinal stimulant to assist with regularity on the ketogenic diet; a dose smaller than the product label advises may be all that is needed. Senokot-S tablets are very low in carbohydrate (80mg per table). Magnesium can also be helpful such as the Milk of Magnesia (Original is carb-free). Beth
